Creative Writing Number 3

     For today's blog post we needed to create a short story with a certain kind of conflict in it. I have chosen to have a person vs. person conflict and person vs. self conflict, I am using my same characters that I used in my other creative writing about characters.

     Halley and Connor have been friends for a very long time. They met each other in Grade 2 and have been super close, Halley and Connor are now married but it didn't go as smooth as you would think.

     When Halley and Connor were in Grade 11, Connor started having feelings for Halley that were more than just friends. Connor told Halley he had more feelings for her but she said it would be better if they just stayed friends. After lots of talking Connor promised her that he would never hurt. Finally, Halley gave in and said she would go out with him. They were going good for a couple of months then they started arguing a lot and said it wasn't going to work out. They promised each other that they were still going to be as close as they were before but that just didn't work.

     Halley then started getting mad at herself and saying if she had said "no" then she would still have her best friend to talk too all the time. Halley was acting so different now, she didn't want to do anything. I was trying to cheer Halley up and do things with her like go shopping and everything but she kept saying no. Halley would always see Connor in the hall and she would  feel heartbroken. I thought I had to do something about this because I couldn't keep seeing my friend so upset, so I went and talked to Connor and told him that he should try talking to her so they could work things out and become friends again.

     One night Halley and I were hanging out and Halley got a text from Connor asking her if he could meet up with her and talk. Halley and Connor met up at the park and talked things through and said that it was silly that they weren't talking to each other because neither one of them did anything wrong, so they decided that they were going to go back to the way things were and become friends again and go back to the way things were and just stay friends for now.

     They stayed friends for the rest of Grade 11 and everything was normal, it then came time for grad and both of them thought that they should go together but just as friends, they went to grad just as friends and came home more than friends and ever since then they have always been together and have been by each others sides through everything and I have never seen my best friend so happy before!

Creative Writing Number 2

For my blog today we had to create a character and talk about the life of our character. My character will be talking about her life and things are important to her.

     Hi, my name is Halley and I am 40 years old. I am 5'6 and have brown black hair with medium peach skin. I am a middle school teacher who teaches English and Math. I have been teaching for 15 years and have met so many wonderful people through the years. Teaching is something I love doing and always try to make the learning and teaching fun and enjoyable for the kids and myself. I get to and from work every day by my Black GMC Acadia. One thing that I love doing at my school is teaching the students dance, one saying I always use is "dance like no one's watching." I graduated high school and then went to the University of Winnipeg and got my teaching degree. Whenever I'm at work I always like to dress fancy and look professional but at home I like to look casual. I don't only have my teaching family I have my actual family. We live in Winnipeg in a very friendly neighborhood. We have a very beautiful two-story house with a double garage and a pool in the backyard. I am married to a very lovely man named Connor and have been together ever since high school. Connor owns many of the Ricki clothing stores which makes us well off, and we are able to provide lots of stuff for our children. We have 4 amazing children Jordan(15), Nicole(13), Liam(9) and Cassidy(6). I love my children a lot and I do the best I can to be a supportive and fun parent. We have two fish and a Cocker Spaniel named Marley who is 3 years old. Another Important thing in my life is my best friend Samantha. Samantha and myself have been friends ever since kindergarten and practically grew up together, doing everything together. Samantha also has 4 children who are the same age as mine and also have grown up together. Samantha's children call me Auntie Halley and her children call me Auntie Samantha. Samantha was my maid of honor for my wedding and I was hers for her wedding. One thing that Samantha and myself have done ever since middle school is have a girls Saturday and go shopping and get our nails done, now we include our daughters once in a while for a little treat for them. When we are together the boys always do something so they are not left out (we never know what it is they do though, they say they can't tell us.) We also do many things as families like go on trips and go out for supper. Every little bit we parents just go out and the kids all hang out together. Our families get along so well and that makes everything better and we love that! Now that you know a little about my life you should know that I care so much about my family and friends and am so fortunate that I have such wonderful people in my life!

Creative Writing Number 1

     For this blog post we had to write about our bedroom and what it looks like. My room is not a big room but it is not a small room, i find it a bit squishy with all my stuff in it but it is big enough that I can have everything I want in it. I have my twin sized bed against one wall, my mirror and desk against the other wall then my closet with my dresser inside of it and a window facing my backyard with a whiteboard underneath it. My room is a turquoise color that is almost the color of sticky tack.

      At the head of my bed I have a lime green green fabric board hanging on my wall with pictures and cards of me and my friends, I call it my memory board. Also, on the wall hanging beside my desk is my grade 5 and grade 8 pictures. Outside my window I can see my trampoline and the field behind my house. Hanging over my closet is a shelf with all my trophies and pictures or special things people gave me, like my aunt always gave me all the Sarah's angels for my birthday so I have all of them up in my room. In the summer when I have my window open I can smell all the chlorine from my neighbours pool. After Easter or Christmas my room has a very strong smell of Chocolate and Candy. My room is pretty neat most of the time but at times it is very messy, like after my birthday or Christmas I put all my gifts in my room because I have no where to put them so they are all on my floor in my room. I have never really thought I had a lot of stuff but writing this thinking about it I would need my own storage box just for all my belongings because I have so much stuff. My room always gets the sun during the day so I don;t even need to have a light on because the sun is so bright. When my friends come over we will sometimes hangout in my room depending on if it is clean and looks presentable. My room is a place to me that I love going and it always seems to make me feel so happy because it is my place and it makes me feel safe and that everything is going to be okay.

This is the book cover I chose because I find that it represents the book the best. The font isn't that big so it doesn't pick take away from the picture because the picture in the cover always tells you a bit more of what story is about. I chose this cover because it is really colourful and doesn't look like a cartoon cover it looks like an actually picture was taken. I think this cover relates to the book a lot because it shows Titania sleeping in the forest with the fairies surrounding her and in the book it takes place a lot in the forest and everyone keeps falling asleep in the forest and getting the magic love juice poured on them. I think its Titania because she is one of the first girls to fall asleep and get the flower juice sprinkled on her eye lids and also because she has all of her fairies surrounding her. I also think this is the best cover because in the other covers in has bottom with his donkey head and hat isn't the whole point of the play, bottom getting his head turned into a donkey head. I feel that  this book is mostly about the lovers falling in love with everyone else by the flower juice and it all happens when they are sleeping. Just by looking at the picture the scene where Titania fell asleep and Puck came and sprinkled the flower juice on his her eyes came in to my mind and that's what I think the whole story is about so that's why I chose this cover. Also, this picture isn't really busy and it doesn't have so many things going on at once and that is just like the book, there are many things happening but they all aren't happening all at once.

Literacy Blog Number 5

In this blog post we need to compare something from our book that is the same as MSND.I have started reading a new book called "Someone like you" By: Sarah Dessen. It is about a girl named Halley and her best friend Scarlett's boyfriend died and Scarlett finds out she is pregnant. Hally ow has to be the best friend she has always been and help out her friend. Halley's mom Julie is really over protected and I am relating her to Egeus. Egeus is Hermia's dad and wants her to marry Demetrius and not Lysander but Hermia really likes Lysander. It took me some time to really think about what is the same between the two books and I came up with that Egeus and Julie are both really over protected parents and want their daughters to do what they want. Hally likes this boy named Macon but her mom does not approve of him and wants her to continue dating Noah from before the Summer but she doesn't want to and that is just like Hermia because she wants to run away with Lysander and get married and she does not want to do what her father says and that is just like Hally. Something that I thought was really opposite is Helena and Hermia are best friends and Scarlett and Hally are best friends. But when Hermia and Helena need to stick together they end up getting into a big fight over the guys and when Scarlett and Hally are in a terrible situation they come closer together and stand by each others sides and help each other out and don't let each other go.

Litracy Blog Number 3- Spring Break 2013

 

     This Spring Break doesn't feel like all the other Spring Breaks because we have SNOW on the ground. I am still really excited for Spring Break because I have some fun days planned! My grandpa is taking me, my brother and my cousin out for breakfast one day and I am really looking forward to it because I haven't seen my cousin in along time so it will be fun to catch up with him. Also, I am going to the mall with my friend to go shopping at Polo Park and then we are going to see the movie "Identity Thief" which will be fun because I have watched the trailer and it looks like such a funny movie, after the movie we are going to have a sleepover which will be really funny cause we get along really well and we have the same interests so it`s always easy to find something to do. We are also going out for supper with our friends at Boston Pizza that we haven't seen in a while which will be fun . I am really excited for Spring Break because I haven't been busy for a while and it will be fun just to relax and hang out with friends. I wish their was no snow for Spring Beak because then we could do more things but I'm just hoping the weather will be nice so we can enjoy the outdoors. Other than that I just plan to sleep in everyday.

 

I chose this picture because it is a very bright picture and I'm excited for Spring Break. For some reason it doesn't feel like it is going to be Spring Break next week but it is, so when I saw this picture I was getting more into the feeling that is Spring Break next week. I chose this picture too because the sparklers remind me of Canada Day and summer and that is something that I want to come soon because I have an amazing summer planned too. So seeing this picture is getting me excited for two things. I really like Spring Break because it is giving you a break just in the middle of the school year just to relax and do whatever you want. It`s giving you a break from all your school because after Spring Beak everything goes crazy because you are getting ready for you exams and concerts.

 

 

I also chose this picture because I am going to be seeing a lot of friends I haven`t seen in a while which will be fun. So this picture is representing all the things I am going to be doing with all my friends. I am really excited to see all my friends because we have been planning this for a long time so talking about it is making me even more excited. I wish we could see them more but we can`t because we are all really busy with school and sports, so during Spring Break all the sports are winding down so we always plan a day during Spring Break to see each other.

 

Literacy Blog Post Number 3

     In today's blog post we need to talk about something we like about our book. I am reading the book "That Summer", By: Sarah Dessen. Something I like about the book is how the author describes stuff. she is very descriptive and I'm never asking myself where it is or anything because the author always says all the details we need to know. Also, she always tells us how the characters are feeling so you don't need to try to and guess, even if she doesn't tell you exactly how their feeling just by the description you can clearly tell. when describing stuff she always is super descriptive and I like that because many times when you read some books they never tell you things and that is what I dislike about something things. Also, in this book the story is very easy to follow along and I'm never unsure of anything or questioning what is happening. That is one key thing in a book that needs to happen, you need to be able to know what is going on and some authors can't do that so it makes the book very confusing. Sarah Dessen did a really good job writing this book and those are the reason why I really like. I like the main idea about it and what is happening in the book, so the makes it better.

Literacy Blog Number 2- Semester 2

     For Today's Blog Post we have to make a connection between something in our book to something that we have experienced. I am relating a part in my book which is the part when she refers to a summer that she will never forget. When I first saw this book and I read the title I thought about the Summer that I will never forget. Going into the first couple chapters nothing that happened in the book has happened to me. I am more just relating to all the times when she talks about the Summer that she will never forget. She always talks about her sisters ex boyfriend and how she felt that she really connected with her. Now she thinks everything has changed because her dad got re-married and her sister is getting married to. everything is falling apart. I can relate to this because in the Summer of July 2010 we went to our friends cottage in Netley Creek with 6 families. 12 adults and 17 children. We went for a weekend and I will never forget that Summer because that is the summer that us kids all bonded and got closer. We went swimming, tubing, and played games. I wish we would have a summer like that again because now that we are all getting older we never see each other anymore and we are all starting to drift apart. So, every time she talks about wishing that summer would come back I can relate to that because I wish the Summer of 2010 would happen again and we can all see each other.

Literacy Blog #1- Semester 2

     Hi, My name is Sarah and I am in Grade 9. I am making this blog for my Grade 9 English Class. One of my favourite books is Tori by Design. It is about a girl who moves from Winnipeg to New York. The author of the book is a Winnipeg Author. I liked the book because it is not to difficult to read and you can understand what is going on in the book. One of my favourite movies is either New Years Eve or Pitch Perfect. I like these movies because they are always to follow along and their are some good parts in it. I like movies that have some real life stuff to do with them. Also, when you can relate somewhat to movie it is better I find. My favourite thing is Summer because you can travel places and hangout with your friends all the time and its nice and hot outside. I don't mind Winter but seeing we live in Winnipeg it is always so cold and nobody ever wants to go outside. One thing I have always wanted to do is go swimming with Dolphins in Hawaii! I don't know why it has just been something I have always wanted to do.

    

 

     The book I am reading is called " that summer " by Sarah Dessen. I'm on  the 5th chapter but what I have learnt about the book. Its about a girl who is looking back at a summer that she will never forget. Her dad got re-married and her perfect sister was getting married too. The book starts off with her dad getting married and she just keeps referring to that summer so I think the book is starting in the past and coming forward to the present. She thinks everything is going to quickly and she just wants everything to slow down. She always refers to this one boy that her sister dated and everyone liked. A prediction I have made is that maybe he will come back and she will fall for him.

 

     One of the main characters that we know the most about it is Haven. Haven is fifteen years old and already six-feet-tall. Looking at the picture on the cover of the book she has brown hair but they have never said anything in the book. I am just making an observation by looking at the cover of the book. from the first couple chapters of the book it seems like Haven has a really nice personality. She cares a lot about other people and always want them to be happy. Her and her sister Ashley don't have the greatest relationship but they still are sisters. Haven has a mom and her dad that got re-married to the women they call " weather pet". Haven always talks about how she doesn't like being six-feet-tall and wishes she was shorter. Not knowing so much about the character was hard finding a character who could play Haven if it would come out in a movie but I thought maybe Selena gomez or China Ann Mcclain. the only thing about having Selena Gomez may be her age but I think either one of them would be able to play Haven.

 

In the book 'That Summer' they live in a town called Lakeview because that is a place Haven always refers too. I think it takes place not to long ago because by the descriptions and everything it is things that we have done or see in movies that have not happened long ago. We know for sure that it takes place during the summer because they always talk about being outside. It is talking about Haven and her life and how she sees things. When reading the first couple chapters and thinking of the setting it reminded me of when we went on a vacation. We went to our friends cottage and their were six families and we all stayed their for a weekend, all the kids had a good time and the adults did too. we went swimming and tubing and it is a Summer I will never forget because I was with people that I know and we all got along well and had a good time and we all enjoyed hanging out with each other. I wish every Summer was like that Summer. So, just reading about those settings in the book made me relate back to that one Summer I will never forget.

 



 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Literary Blog Number 10

Chapter 5 Questions:

1. Gillespie did not like the way Virgil interrupted him when Mr. Endicott was in his Office talking about Mantoli. That's why he had strong hostility against him at the beginning of the chapter.

2. Virgil Tibbs respected him and acted very calm towards Gillespie as he yelled at him. He did not make a big scene about it, he just got up and left.

3. Frank Schubert is the mayor of Wells. Frank and Gillespie disagree on keeping Virgil in town. Franks wants him to Virgil in town to help with the crime but Gillespie disagrees and wants him out. Frank convinces Gillespie to keep Virgil in town because Frank told Gillespie that no matter what happens with the crime if it is solved or unsolved Virgil will get blamed for it and because he has no police power here Gillespie will get the credit for it.

4. a) "To Gillespie's intense relief, he didn't smell." Gillespie did not like the smell of black people and he thought since Virgil had been walking for awhile in the hot sun he figured he would have a bad odour and smell, but he didn't end up smelling from Gillespie's view.

  b) "If Chief Morris asked me to," Tibbs replied promptly, "I'd go to England and look for Jack the Ripper." I think Virgil responded the way he did because in Pasadena they respect each other very much and would do anything for them. So when Gillespie said his Chief said he would he said that because he would do anything for his chief.

 c) "They had a murder here this morning. They don't know what to do about it, so they're using me for a fall guy." Virgil says this because he probably knows that if anything goes wrong he will be blamed for this. that is probably the meaning behind saying " they're using me as a fall guy". saying he is the they will all blame is nothing good comes out of him staying and helping.

d) " I don't want to be conspicuous." He doesn't want to be noticed by people because if people see him driving the police car they would think he stole it or something because strangers just walking down the street don't know why he is actually there so he doesn't want to make a big scene.   

e) " I can give you some good references," Tibbs answered. "They're in California. San Quentin."
He is saying that he knows people that have had him as a police officer or something and know that he has done a good job and could use them as references.

5. Grace Endicott reacted the same way that Mr.Endicott reacted when meeting Virgil. She reacted very kind and polite, treated him like he wasn't different in anyway. She treated him the opposite way that Gillespie treated him.

6. Eric Kaufmann is Mantoli's associate and manager. Eric's alibi is he was in town for the first part of the evening then he had to leave town around ten to go to Atlanta, he got to Atlanta around two thirty in the morning and stopped at a hotel for sleep. He was awake when he got the call about Mantoli.

7. Sam felt very bad for Duena. They first got outside and just sat their very quietly but then Duena asked Sam some questions. Sam did his best to answer the questions. Sam wanted to answer those question the best he could without causing anymore pain. He wanted to comfort her and put his arm around her but he knew he couldn't. So he tried his best in how he answered the questions without making her more upset then she already was with the death of her father. Some characteristics of Duena are she seems like a very genlte person, example as said in the book " she spoke softly, but her words were clear, distinct, and unafraid". She also seemed very strong because she was handling the death of her father very well because she was OK with answering some questions about it.

8. One big thing that has been added to the plot is Virgil Tibbs staying and helping with solving the murder. For us wondering what is going to happen. Some secondary plots would be learning about the three new characters in the book Duena Mantoli, Eric Kaufmann and Frank Schubert.

Literary blog number 9

1. Sam wood is the police officer that is on the night shift.

2. His character is an average character because by hearing his name it isn't like a name that stands out, it just fits in with everyones. Also, his character is someone strong becasuse the name resembles the characters and the word "wood" is something that is strong and bulk. Also, he is casual and easy going because the name Sam is something that is shortened from a longer name so you can tell he is easy going because his name is shorter. ALso, he has been a police officer for about 3 years.

3. Delroes Purdy is considered ' white trash' in the book because she lives in the poorer end of town. She seems stuck-up and wanting all the attention because hse was standing in her front window naked.

4. The man working at the diner is namede Ralph. He seems like a nice person because he was asking him how his shift was. He also seems to have small hands because when same out his hands down on the counter he said he wished he had solid hands like Sam.

5. He was talking to Sam and told him that black people act like animals with all the food that they eat when they come into the diner.Saying white people are more like the actual humans on this planet adn black people to aanilmals. He is using a metaphor comparing black people to animals. He is comparing them because he is probably saying black people come in and eat all of his food and eat as much as anilmals do.

6. The big event that is coming into the city is the Orchestra.

7. The name of the city that takes place in the book is called Wells.

8. The person that was killed was named Manolie.

I am done Tori by Design and I am onto a new book that was suggested to me by Jessica called L.A Candy By: Lauren Conrad. I am only on the first couple of chapters but so far it is a really good book. Their are two main characters Jane and Scarlett and they have just moved two L.A and they are living together in a little apartment. If you like Drama Romance kind of books you would like the LAuren Conrad series.

Literary Bolg Nuber 8

I am partners with Sahmara and during our brainstorm session we came up with some ideas. Some of our ideas are:

1) You follow a bunch of different types of schools without them knowing and have a bunch of hidden cameras and their is someone who is disguised and they take a walk through the school and see which school helps them out the most and give them a good time, every week a school gets disqualified and the school at the end that wins gets a choice of renovations, money, school supplies or so gym equipment. We chose it because we have never really seen a reality TV show about schools.I think the TV show would probably be on a channel like TLC. This show would probably be shown on a Monday night during Prime Time. I think more moms would find this show interesting because then they can see what kind of schools are out there.

2) There is a group of teenagers that get chosen and they have to design outfits of the judges choice for their model and the models have to wear exactly what the teenagers chose, the teenager then has describes the outfit to the  judges and the judges give them a mark out of 10 each so a total mark out of 50 and the teenager with the lowest score gets disqualified. The show would start off with 15 teenagers either girls or guys. The show would probably last about a couple months. The winner would win a cash prize and a chance to meet their favourite celebrity. This show would be targeted towards more teenagers and be on probably on a Sunday night also during prime time.

Literary Blog Number 7

    The TV show that I relate to Tori by design is "90210". IN the show "90210" Annie moves from Kanas to the big city of Beverly hills just like Tori moves from a small place to New York. Tori and Annie are alike because they both start of as friends with these boys and then starts to fall in love with them even though they are both already dating people. A difference between them is the drama, in Tori by design the drama is more with her family about the baby coming but in "90210" the drama is more about their relationships as friends. I think Annie and Tori are very alike because they both over react about stuff they find out about that is a shock to them. Both "90210" and Tori by design are full of drama but "90210" is more of the adult drama and for the teen ages but Tori by design is for teenagers but not for adults to read. It is more for just teenagers to read but "90210" can be for teenagers or adults to watch. Some more differences of the two are Tori by design has fewer characters then "90210". Also, in "90210" all the characters have different relationships and all know each other cause they all go to school together and have the same group of friends, but in Tori by design all the kids don't know each other and they all don't have relationships with each other.

How google docs can help you

     Google Docs can help us because if people are busy and can't get together as a group then when they have free time they can do their part and everyone can see what they did. Also, you never know what people's comfort level is about going to people's house that they don't know. This way everyone can do their part of the work and it is visible for everyone in the group to see it. you can write comments and chat with them so if you make a change in the project you can write them to the rest of your group and let them know what you did so they are aware. Also, it would help us communicating with our teacher. If you need to show your teacher something you can attach it to Google docs and send it to your teacher and if they have any advice to give you they could write it and you could see it.. It is one way that also helps save paper. It would help me personally because it is a very easy way to work with your group without actually getting together. It's easier then getting together because you need to find times that you can get together and a place you could go. With Google docs you can do your work whenever you have a free time and you can see what everyone else is doing and give them some tips or if you see a spelling mistake, they could do the same for you.

New Book

I have finished reading Dear John and I have moved on to a new book called Tori by Design by Colleen Nelson. Its about a girl named Tori and she makes her dad apply for a job in new york because she wants to live there. Her dad gets the job and they move from Winnipeg to New York.. but it is really different from what Tori imagined it to be. Colleen Nelson is from Winnipeg so in the book she keeps going back talking about Winnipeg.. Colleen had an assignment that she had to do for school and it was to write a chapter of a book. Later she had her first book published. I like the book because when she talks about some of the tourists places in Winnipeg I know what she is talking about. Anyone that likes drama kind of books would really like Tori by Design.

Literary Blog Number 5

     My favourite scene in the book is when Savannah is with all of her friends at the pier during the day and her guy friend knocks her purse into the ocean and she starts freaking out. So, John dives into the ocean to retrieve her purse for her. John had just came back and he is on leave from the army and he is visiting is dad, Savannah is in Wilmington working with a group of people on a house while she is on her break from University. I like this scene because we get to meet Savannah and John together and see how they act around each other. At first John isn't sure whether he should or not but then Savannah starts yelling at her friend that knocked it in saying all of this valuable stuff that she has in it so at the moment John decides to jump in. While John and Savannah start talking I could tell that at that moment they would fall in love. I like that because then right away the book gets better because it starts right away not 10 chapters into the book but the first chapter so you get an idea of how the book will play out and you can make better predictions because you know more about the character. Making predictions for a book once you read the first couple chapters is hard because you don't always know all of the characters but in Dear John their are 3 main characters that we follow through the story and those characters are John, Savannah and John's Dad, we meet all of the characters and learn about them all in the first couple chapters.

Literary blog assingment number 4

     The author of my book is Nicholas Sparks. Sparks uses different kind of styles, depending on the character some of them use slang when communicating with each other but most of them speak more business- like. For example John and his dad speak more in formal when talking to each other, because John's dad speaks in very short sentences like only one word answers " I'll probably be sleeping." " I didn't mean it literally ". ( Sparks, 104 ) When you see Savannah and all her friends talk they talk in short sentences but more of a high vocabulary of words. Sparks chose to write Dear John in first person point of view. The book is organized into chapters but with three parts, Chapters 1-12, Chapters 12-16 and 16-20. I am just finishing Part 1 so I think that their would be a reason for splitting it up into 3 parts but I have not gotten their yet. I think Sparks decided to write it how he did so far because he doesn't think and love story is written in formal and because he wants to get it across to young girls to read it. I think it helps people understand love and the many ways it can go. The way the Sparks wrote the book really got across to me, I like love story and romantic novels but not all authors I like. I thought Sparks did a very good job of writing the book, it doesn't go into to much detail but enough detail for us to understand.

Literary blog assignment number 3

     The quote I chose is: " I think my dad was happy. I phrase it like this because he seldom showed much emotion.      I chose this quote because I felt it had a good a good meaning toward life. I also chose it because it really made me think because as I grew up my life was the completely opposite of his life, i had both of my parents growing up and they always wanted to make conversation with me. I really wonder what it feels like to only have one parent he doesn't even really talk to you, so in the book i was really able to see how certain people react to it.  As I was looking through the book for I quote I really got drawn to this one because it had a good word and that you really shouldn't take things or people for granted, because some people don't have the same things as you or just like that you could lose someone. The quote is important to the plot because it lets you know how John's relationship is with his dad so you can understand the story more and not always get lost or not understand what they are talking about and how they are towards each other. One literary term that the author uses would be Imagery but focuses more on the Synaesthesia part of Imagery, because in the book their are lots of different emotions going around between different characters but mostly between John and his dad. Another one would be mood because just at this part John is starting to realise his relationship with him and his dad, it is just the moment of the book.
